SKYFALL Director, Sam Mendes, Declines Offer To Direct Next Bond Movie
With latest James Bond Movie, 2012′s Skyfall, raking in about $1.1 billion worldwide, everyone would naturally expect the director- Sam Mendes to return for the 24th Bond project however that will not be the case as the director has passed on a chance to direct that movie when the time comes.
In an interview Empire, Same explained his reasons for shying away from the project citing commitment to other projects like King Lear; “It has been a very difficult decision not to accept Michael and Barbara’s very generous offer to direct the next Bond movie. Directing Skyfall was one of the best experiences of my professional life, but I have theatre and other commitments, including productions of Charlie And The Chocolate Factory and King Lear, that need my complete focus over the next year and beyond.”
Sam isn’t ruling out the probability of working with people he got involved with while working on Skyfall as he admits “I feel very honoured to have been part of the Bond family and very much hope I have a chance to work with them again sometime in the future”.
With regards to Sam Mendes turning his back on the next Bond project, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli have expressed their thoughts on the matter “We thoroughly enjoyed working with Sam, he directed our most successful Bond movie ever, Skyfall. We would have loved to have made the next film with him but completely respect his decision to focus on other projects and hope to have the opportunity to collaborate with him again.”
With Sam Mendes out of the running, whom would you like to direct the next Bond flick?
