Tennis Rival Calls Serena Williams a Home Wrecker
Tennis superstar Serena Williams caught flack for her recent comments about teenage drinking and rape. She has since apologized. But her apology didn’t sit well with fellow tennis player Maria Sharapova.
In the Rolling Stone interview, Williams called Maria Sharapova “boring.” And Maria struck back, calling Serena a shameless home wrecker.
“At the end of the day, we have a tremendous amount of respect for what we do on the court,” said Sharapova during a Wimbledon press conference in London.
“I just think she should be talking about her accomplishments, her achievements, rather than everything else that’s just getting attention and controversy,” Sharapova said.
The Sharapova stuck the knife in Serena’s back: “If she wants to talk about something personal, maybe she should talk about her relationship and her boyfriend that was married and is getting a divorce and has kids,” she said, referring to Serena’s love match with her tennis coach Patrick Mouratoglou.
Sharapova added: “Talk about other things, but not draw attention to other things. She has so much in her life, many positives, and I think that’s what it should be about.”
